Shelly Quarmby, It’s Muller, Rachel Nicholas, Joe Morton, Jacob John	, 27 May 2012

27 May 2012 - Rock & Pop at The Yardbird

FREE

A sweet, refreshing talent. Musically, vocally, eclectically, Shelly Quarmby is somewhere in between Sarah McLachlan and Hillary Scott (Lady Antebellum). Piano driven hooks, auto-biographical lyrics and a blend of wilfully honest and strikingly powerful vocals that surround you; this music wears its heart on its sleeve. With an EP that in the press has been described as "sensual…..with moments of heart-stopping magic" and live performances "She was an instant hit with the [audience] as they instantly warmed to her powerful country-tinged vocals and keyboard playing as she belted out five emotionally-charged songs" and of the vocals "her voice soars over simple, engaging and effective piano led country-pop".

Shelly’s songs captivate; a blend of country, pop and rock inspired by great songwriters such as Jimmy Webb, Randy Newman, Carole King and Beth-Nielsen-Chapman. Comparative to female singer-songwriters like Paula Cole, Chantal Kreviazuk, Jewel, Vonda Shepard and Sarah McLachlan her songs are powerful and emotive, they will leave you wanting more. Shelly Quarmby is an unmissable talent!

30 May 2012 - Rock & Pop at The Yardbird

FREE

With the upcoming release of their EP, ‘Say it like you mean it’ on their own label, Unmasked Recordings, New Street Adventure represent a welcome return for classic British song writing. Given their influences, largely from the 60s and 70s, this is a modern and refreshing take on what soul music can be to a new generation.

Fossil Collective, 10 Jun 2012

10 Jun 2012 - Rock & Pop at The Yardbird

FREE

Fossil Collective, a two-piece from Leeds, consists of multi instrumentalists David Fendick and Jonny Hooker. Their first recordings saw them taking inspiration from classic albums by Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac and Simon and Garfunkel and suggested comparisons with more contemporary artists such as Fleet Foxes, Midlake and Bon Iver. But in truth their exquisitely structured songs and glorious, rich harmonies owe as much, if not more, to a solid English song tradition, and their material holds that distinct English quality that many North American artists hanker after.

Citizens, Prisms, Vigilance Committee, 17 Jun 2012

17 Jun 2012 - Rock & Pop at The Yardbird

FREE

CITIZENS!

Citizens! are five handsome London boys who pen songs with a panoramic view. Warm, welcoming, traditional, as classy as marble, and the icing on cake is they are produced by no other than Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand. They are here to reclaim pop music, stating “Pop is not a dirty word. It’s a holy one.” And these boys have the guts to do so, but with soul and integrity.

Over the last year they have amassed quite a following after signing with hip indie Kitsuné, who released their debut single ‘True Romance’ and supporting The Rapture on their UK tour. Now with new single ‘Reptile’ due for release on March 26th and with news of an album just around the corner, they might just be able to steer pop on the right path once more.

"Sheek, slinky and smart, ‘True Romance’ is a masterclass in elitist pop." – This is Fake DIY

PRISMS

This Birmingham three-piece have been luring an audience with their dynamic sound, blending deep bass and electronics with live Instruments to create music inspired by the likes of M83, Sigur Ros, Justice and Imogen Heap.

PRISMS recently finished work on their début EP with producer Al Groves (Tantrums/Pandas and People/Victories at Sea/Tropicaux) which is anticipated for release in April/May 2012 and will be supported by a string of live UK show and summer festivals.

Every Sunday, Birmingham Promoters present an evening of eclectic music.

Doors: 6pm til late - FREE ENTRY

Jake Mattison, 20 Jun 2012

20 Jun 2012 - Rock & Pop at The Yardbird

FREE

Jake Mattison started playing music at the age of 10 when he found a guitar in an abandoned cupboard and began to pick out tunes – the only recorded music he had access to was a tape that had Abba’s ‘Forever Gold’ on one side and Marvin Gaye’s ‘What’s Going On’ on the flip. As a teenager Jake became obsessed with boxing, just as his granddad, dad and uncle had all done. He worked hard and turned pro, winning 38 of his 43 flights, but by the time he was in his early 20s he had already begun to lose interest. When his old friend Paul slipped him a copy of the Cocteau Twins’ ‘Four-Calendar Café’, the game was up
