Oh! What A Lovely War	, 15 May 2012 - 20 Jun 2012

15 May 2012 - 20 Jun 2012 - Theatre at The Old Joint Stock

Take a large dollop of The British Expeditionary Force, add a generous dose of the Afghan/Iraq war and a smidgen of political activists of the Vietnam War; stir thoroughly with lively music, slapstick humour, improvisation, loveable songs from the era – blast in a red hot theatrical furnace of The Old Joint Stock Theatre at the temperature of 7.30pm (or 2pm) sharp for a slightly adapted production of Joan Littlewood and the Theatre Workshop’s music theatre master piece ‘Oh! What A Lovely War’. You'll leave wanting seconds!

In Dolly West's kitchen, her family has its own conflicts to face as their lives are transformed with the arrival of allied troops across the border in Derry. War changes everything - its tragedies, its survivals and the history of the West family will be changed forever as this compelling play by award-winning playwright Frank McGuinness shows.

NTI Shakespeare - Workshop 2, 27 May 2012

27 May 2012 - Workshop at The Old Joint Stock

The New Theatre Initiative (NTI) is a new partnership between in a moment theatre practitioners and the Old Joint Stock Theatre.

We will be running a series of NTI Workshops throughout the year aimed at stimulating the creation of new theatre here in Birmingham, inviting Actors, Writers, and Directors to make theatre together in the heart-of-Birmingham’s independent theatre. Each run of workshops will culminate in a showcase night of full performances of the newly created works to a paying audience at the OJST, and from the best of these Workshop performances will emerge full-scale production runs.

The attractive package of support the OJST are offering all NTI productions means that at last a full creation cycle for new plays will be an on-going and real opportunity for all Actors, Writers, Directors, and Theatre Creatives. We believe this exciting opportunity is what this region has been sorely lacking.

NTI Shakespeare - Showcase Night	, 14 Jun 2012

14 Jun 2012 - Theatre at The Old Joint Stock

After a month of slaving away with quill and parchment, the actors and writers of the first NTI Workshop Cycle - NTI Shakespeare - present their labours in a showcase night of Shakespeare-inspired new work.

As with all of the NTI showcase nights, the teams will present their work to the general public, and at the end of the evening the audience will be asked to vote on the best piece of the night and offer any feedback to the teams.

But it's not all competitive - in keeping with the spirit of the NTI Scheme, all competing teams will be offered a generous support package to further develop and perform a full version of their work at the Old Joint Stock Theatre in the future.

We hope you can join us for a truly collaborative evening of new writing at the Old Joint Stock Theatre!

The Miller's Tale With The Songs Of Bob Dylan , 23 Jun 2012

Yes, the very Miller that rode out of London on the pilgrimage to Canterbury...

These days he recites his poem, dances around his broomstick, sings the songs of Bob Dylan and wears an interesting collection of hats. It's definitely six centuries of separation. While keeping close to the original poetry, the Miller is almost fluent in modern English and understandably bonkers!
