An entertaining and fascinating operetta based on the North American folk legend of Paul Bunyan, the giant lumberjack! Standing as tall as the Empire State Building, this behemoth of a man chopped his way across a newly founded America and into the hearts of its citizens. Paul Bunyan entertains adults and children alike, combining Britten’s beautiful music, which features folksongs, hymns and blues, with a libretto by W. H. Auden. Come and see some of the University's most talented performers in this summer’s gigantic musical adventure!

Warm up your vocal cords and join us for an afternoon of show-stoppers, as our Musical Director, Alex Parker, leads a fun singing session of some of Broadway’s and the West End’s best-loved chorus numbers. The afternoon culminates in a performance with show band accompaniment.

Join us for an intimate evening of chamber music featuring ensembles from across the University, along with the Chamber Choir performing a collection of classical and popular choral works, among them Dowland’s Come Again and Vaughan Williams’s The Turtle Dove. The programme also includes the première of the winning entry in this year’s Festival Composition Competition.

With its illustrious list of former winners, this prestigious competition provides young pianists with the chance to further their career and perform in world-class venues. in the preliminary round, mixed programmes are performed by up to 25 competitors, of whom eight are selected for the Semi-Finals. The final takes place at Town Hall, Birmingham, on Sunday 1 July.

Attraction, infatuation, obsession, love? Reality or illusion? The noble Orlando is driven mad by such feelings and doubts. Mauro’s libretto was topical at Hanover in 1691 and is relevant to society today. Based on Ariosto’s epic Orlando furioso, and set mainly in China, Steffani’s opera explores human frailty in a wonderfully poignant and entertaining score.
