Karl's new work The Peacemakers is about to see light of day. Using text by Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Mandela, the Dalai Lama, Albert Schweizter, Terry Waite as well as Shelley, the Bible, Quran, Hinduism etc, the work extolls peace. One line, from Rumi [the 13th- century Persian mystic poet] sums up the ethos of the work; “All religions, all singing one song; Peace be with you”.

So many times in contemporary popular music – in jazz, rock, blues, folk or beyond – the man with the guitar is the fulcrum on which all other sounds and voices hinge. He’s the core, the engine, the captain who leads and inspires the rest of the team.

George Benson has been that man for nearly a half century with more than 30 recordings as a leader and ten Grammy Awards to his name. The NEA Jazz Master has used his jazz roots as the foundation for an engaging mix of pop, R&B and other shades that add up to a style that appeals to a broad mainstream audience. Along the way, he has also established himself as a formidable jazz singer – one whose biggest career hits have showcased his vocals as well as his guitar chops. Ultravox follow the hugely anticipated release of their forthcoming new album Brilliant with a UK tour. This will be the first time the band have played live since their ‘Return To Eden’ reformation shows of 2009.

This show will feature brand new material from the album alongside classic tracks from the band’s hugely influential back catalogue. “We’re cherry picking what will work in the context of a set . There’ll be a good element of the Brilliant album played live and we’re really looking forward to taking these songs out on the road.”

2012 marks the 25th anniversary of the release of Deacon Blues debut album Raintown. To celebrate, the band are reuniting to record a new studio album and head out on a full UK tour in October.

The anniversary show at Symphony Hall will feature songs from the forthcoming album as well as Deacon Blue’s greatest hits.
