Inspired by punk, and especially The Clash, he’s loud, radical, lyrical, reflective, and will make you roar with laughter as well as seethe with anger. A regular at Glastonbury, Attila's melodically political musings are both thoughtful and entertaining.

Tir Na Nog, 28 May 2012

28 May 2012 - Folk at Kitchen Garden Cafe

Leo O’Kelly and Sonny Condell are coming back for more! Audiences have acclaimed their return and have revelled in the musicianship and pedigree of this Irish duo. Their array of beautifully original songs, together with the playful banter emanating from these two troubadours, guarantees that an evening with Tir na nOg is one to savour. The history of Tir na nOg is impressive and intriguing. A period, in the early 70’s, of extensive touring (with the likes of Jethro Tull and Procol Harum) together with three studio albums, enabled world-wide and respected recognition. Forty years on and the magic continues!

Sally’s "soulful and gritty style" (Uncut, UK), "transfixing, gorgeous alto" (Sing Out!), along with husband, Ted Lyons (who's performed with Alex Chilton, Sun Ra, Percy Sledge, John Lee Hooker) with his eclectic, edgy, rhythmic style on resonator guitar (his playing sounds like a mix of Ry Cooder & James Blood Ulmer) and bass player Harvey Gold, perform roots music that combines pop, folk, Memphis and southern Appalachia styles that will stir your soul. Their latest CD, "Made Of Stars", received international acclaim and reached #1 in the Euro-Americana chart and #2 worldwide on both Americana and International Folk radio. "Sally is a treasure”. ‘The kind of energy displayed on Look Out by the Hackensaw Boys is rare. At first listen the tempo is so fast you can hardly take a second to admire the musicianship or uniqueness of individual voices; it just demands you take part clapping, tapping, or howling along. Once you really listen though you can find the seams of the music: a deeply rooted country sensibility, a colorful cast of singers and musicians, a sense of humour, and threads bound to punk rock just as much as country and folk music’ Lucidforce Arts
With feet firmly planted in the old-time song tradition, hands soiled by the dirt of rock n’ roll and eyes fixed steadily on the future of real country music, the Hackensaw Boys are among the most exciting groups charting new territory in today’s diverse Americana music scene.

Dead Belgian, 11 Jun 2012

11 Jun 2012 - Rock & Pop at Kitchen Garden Cafe

Dead Belgian are a Liverpool-based band playing the music of Jacques Brel. They began life in 2007, inspired to share Brel’s music with all who would listen. Each member brought their own influences to the band, from European folk to progressive rock, stripping the songs to their bare bones and fattening them up again using a ramshackle drum kit, ukulele, guitar, accordion, saxophone, mandolin, clarinet and flute. Dead Belgian have developed a playful and inventive sound that meshes dense melodic patterns, demonic waves of intensity and passages of sparse frailty with vocals that have drawn comparison to Edith Piaf, Anthony Hegarty and Nico. It is a sound unique to themselves while still capturing the beauty, passion and humour of the original work, a rousing and rowdy back-porch reinvention of Jacques Brel’s honest and poetic stories.

Wreckless Eric & Amy Rigby, 17 Jun 2012

17 Jun 2012 - Rock & Pop at Kitchen Garden Cafe

Wreckless Eric & Amy Rigby are a two-piece rock and roll group who have individually been making distinctive and original music for decades: he a British iconoclast and wild-card survivor of the early Stiff Records, she as a long-standing heroine of the New York pop scene. Their 2008 debut album “Wreckless Eric & Amy Rigby” and their live show have enjoyed rapturous critical acclaim in the US, UK & Europe.

Wreckless Eric recorded the legendary single “Whole Wide World” back in 1977. Since then he has made countless albums in different guises, moving between bubblegum, pop, grunge, psychedelia and techno, but always remaining true to the DIY spirit of his early days on Stiff.

Amy Rigby started a country band in eighties New York City, went on to form girl group The Shams, and began her solo career in 1996 with the US hit album "Diary Of A Mod Housewife". Her five solo albums embrace pop, country, folk-rock, psychedelia and the indefinable.

The duo has developed a warped, harmony-rich sound. There are no other musicians involved - Wreckless Eric & Amy Rigby accompany themselves with electric and acoustic guitars, bass guitar, keyboards, percussion and the odd sampled loop.

Tom Moriarty, 25 Jun 2012

Grimble whipped Tom into Abbey Road’s famous Studio 2 and a gorgeous album, Fire In The Doll’s House, was born. Quickly drawing very favourable critics’ comparisons with John Martyn, Eddie Vedder, Tom Waits and even Bruce Springsteen, Moriarty landed a distribution deal with Universal Music’s Absolute arm. Journalists purred; Radio presenters raved - with BBC London’s Robert Elms even describing Moriarty as “a pearl amongst oysters”.

The Songs of Nick Drake: Keith James, 4 Jul 2012

4 Jul 2012 - Rock & Pop at Kitchen Garden Cafe

Nick Drake is the most revered and loved of all of this country’s Singer/Songwriters. He recorded three cherished Albums between 1969 and 1972 but was almost entirely unknown in his day. After his tragic death in 1974 aged only 26 his music almost disappeared into obscurity. Now, thanks to a massive resurgence of interest and a worldwide re-evaluation of his genius Nick Drake has become a National treasure. A number of years have now passed since Singer/Guitarist Keith James paralysed the whole Country with his stunningly beautiful series of concerts entitled The Songs of Nick Drake. At the beginning of the project in 2001 he was the first artist ever to bring this immaculate and intriguingly fragile music to Theatres across the UK in its pure concert form. The end result was five years of highly acclaimed tours amounting to over 500 dates in Venues across the British Isles, Europe and all of Nick’s Schools and Colleges - even Glastonbury Festival.
