In 1998, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra achieved a home of its own in the heart of Birmingham's City Centre.
Built to complement the facilities of Symphony Hall, CBSO Centre provides magnificent rehearsal and administrative facilities for the orchestra, its players, its choruses and its sister organisation Birmingham Contemporary Music Group. Since the CBSO and BCMG travel so widely in the UK and abroad, the Centre is able to provide opportunities for use by the wider world.
At the heart of the building is a comfortable 300-seat flexible auditorium for concerts (classical and jazz), opera, dance, theatre, recordings and broadcasts. More diversely, the hall is also regularly used for meetings, barn dances, dinner dances, award presentations, conferences, receptions, poetry recitals, exhibitions and workshops. This principal space is supported by a series of smaller rooms for coaching, sectional rehearsals, technical support, break-out sessions, meetings and catering.
