Join the Birmingham Gay Symphony Orchestra for the Pride Proms 2012 – a performance celebrating this years Pride theme of “It gets better”. Expect an inspiring and joyous evening filled with rousing choruses and the orchestra’s unique verve and energy. Featuring Mussorgsky’s Night on Bald Mountain, Schubert’s Die Fledermaus and Tcahakovsky’s Romeo and Juliet alongside Proms favourites – Pomp and Circumstance March No.4, Rule Britannia, Fantasia on Sea Song and, of course, Jerusalem. The BGSO is one of only two LGBT orchestras in the UK, and one of only a handful around the world.

Darragh Morgan (Violin) and Graham Waterhouse (Cello) are widely regarded as two of Europe’s leading specialists of contemporary music, working with leading ensembles such as MusikFabrik, Ensemble Modern and the Fidelio Trio. In this short late afternoon concert, they perform works by Birmingham PhD student Graham Waterhouse alongside world premieres from Birmingham Conservatoire research students.

The Conservatoire’s Chorus and Repertoire Orchestra perform Bach's monumental masterpiece The Mass in B minor. To take part in a performance of this work is an undertaking that people subsequently recognise as one of the life changing experiences in music making. This performance will be sung by the Chorus which consists predominantly of 1st year students. It will be conducted by Paul Spicer, the distinguished conductor of our Chamber Choir and director of the Birmingham Bach Choir as well as several other choirs. The soloists will come from the Conservatoire Vocal Department.
