The Infernal Comedy Starring John Malkovich, 26 May 2012

26 May 2012 - Theatre at Symphony Hall

John Malkovich stars in a stage play for baroque orchestra, singers and actor, based on the real-life story of convicted serial killer Jack Unterweger. Malkovich’s monologues journey through the life and mind of this notorious Viennese womaniser, writer and murderer, illustrated with music embodying joy, hatred, love, grief, and desire. Sometimes darkly comic, sometimes bleakly brutal, it’s a fascinating insight into the twisted mind of, as Malkovich says, “a bad, bad guy.”

Guns N' Roses, 26 May 2012

After selling out arenas around the globe in 2011, Guns N’ Roses – “the most dangerous band in the world” - are storming the UK this Spring.

It all coincides with the band’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, an honour they nabbed as soon as they were eligible. And, as with everything related to Axl Rose and his cohorts, this tour is guaranteed to cause a stir.

Never far from controversy, but always true to the music, GNR are still the most talked about hard rock band of the past 20 years.

G ‘n’ R will be taking the ‘Night train’ to travel the country with gigs in Paradise cities Nottingham, Liverpool, Newcastle, Glasgow, Birmingham, Manchester and London in May.

In a career spanning more than two decades, Guns N’ Roses have become one of the biggest bands, not only in the world, but in musical (and more importantly, rock ‘n’ roll) history. They have sold over 100 million albums worldwide and are considered one of the most influential rock bands the world has ever seen.

As Critical's figurehead the demand for Kasra's DJ'ing skills has escalated to the point of a schedule that sees him playing regularly every weekend throughout the UK and rest of the world. Vienna, Budapest, Shanghai, Beijing, Miami, Berlin and of course his beloved London are just a few of the places that have beared witness to the Critical sound and the list just keeps getting longer. Quite a feat these days for someone who's not yet really taken the production bull by the horns.

26 May 2012 - Spoken Word at mac

In February 2012, Capital Theatre Festival ran a 6-week Writing for the Stage course at mac birmingham. The workshops provided twelve local writers with a comprehensive introduction to the tools and techniques of playwriting.

Writers were encouraged to develop their own ideas for a one-hour stage-play as the course progressed. Four of the writers were selected for one-to-one mentoring and their resulting works-in-progress can be seen in two rehearsed readings, performed by regional actors.

After a short break Lisa is back and bouncier than ever and to say we have missed her would be an understatement. Lisa is our original Blessed Angel & resident and we love her to bits.

Joining the queen we have HH legends Andy Farley & Ian M who is doing a 90's rave classic set. JP Jukesy - everyone's favourite DJs and we love them too. Coming up to 6 years as Blessed residents JP & Jukesy over the years have become Hard Houses favourite duo. Smashing just about every corner of the UK these two know how to dictate the crowd.

Anthony David, 26 May 2012

26 May 2012 - Rock & Pop at The Drum

“As Above, So Below.” Heady stuff for an R&B album title, but the Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Anthony David has never been the kind of soul artist to “speak loudly, but say nothing.” His debut release, “3 Chords and The Truth”, won critical acclaim and with the Grammy-nominated duet, “Words” David and long-time friend India.

Arie consolidated their award-winning singing and songwriting partnership. Often considered the heir-apparent to troubadour Bill Withers, with “As Above, So Below”, David is elbowing a space for intelligent lyrics and a grown man’s voice in a scene that’s in a race to be young.

A student of Wither’s lyricism; the masculine rhythms of Beres Hammond and Frankie Beverly; the storytelling of Slick Rick, T.I., and Jay-Z; and the blues of Lightning Hopkins, Howling Wolf, and T-bone Walker, David is ushering back the kind of masculine soul that men can identify with and that ladies can nestle upto.

Playing mainly classic Goth, New Wave, Synth and Punk with a splatter of cool glam thrown in. Nothing past 1990, which appeals to the original old skool crowd but also the new faces that are hearing these sounds for the 1st time. Not just a club night but a warm social gathering of friends, brought together by the scene. Ultra friendly and very welcoming for new faces. Always remembering that we class this event as a "wanker free zone" A place to dress up if you want. No one will stare....only admire!! We have a regular following of friends that attend from across the UK and even as far as Europe.
