Midland Opera present their new production of Bellini’s masterpiece Norma, a heart-wrenching story of love and honour. Premiered in Milan in 1831, Norma is best known for its celebrated payer Casta Diva and boasts one of the most demanding soprano parts in the operatic repertoire.

Made famous by such legendary singers as Maria Callas, Joan Sutherland and Montserrat Caballé, this is the first staging of Bellini’s Norma by Midland Opera in their 70 year history and will be sung in English by their talented company of local performers.

Set in Ancient Gaul during the Roman occupation, Norma tells the tale of two druid priestesses torn between their sacred duty and their love for the same man, the leader of the hated army of oppression.
