British Asian Musicians by Jaskirt Dhaliwal FREE

Pit and Café Bar

Artist Talk: Wed 8 Jul, 7pm

The idea of a British Asian artist being as successful as Madonna or Eminem used to be unimaginable. However, the emergence of artists like M.I.A and Jay Sean has made that a possibility.

British Asian Musicians is a photographic exhibition that celebrates the achievements that British Asians have made in music, and exhibits the lesser-known artists emerging on the scene.

The cultural and historical importance of these musicians is immense; they represent, reflect and connect with today’s second and third generation British Asians and despite the differing styles of music or the message they project, all have commonalities; South Asian roots and a place in British Asian culture.

“Within this United Kingdom a melodic animal called the British Asian music industry lives and breathes. Ignored by the self appointed gate-keepers of our cultural elite it continues to grow, and involve more and more artists & practitioners who themselves are also children of Albion. In years to come the photographs of these audio authors will be seen as the first definitive record of a revolution, so give your brain a visual exclusive, and soak your eyes in a journey that's only just begun.” *Bobby Friction (BBC Radio 1 & Asian Network)
