Join us for this year’s Artsfest at the Council House in the City Centre, where characters from the past come to life! Lady Barber herself will be on hand to guide you to our performances of Art Alive! where you will be able to meet British artist Gwen John as she tells us about her enigmatic painting, Mère Poussepin, which is currently featured in the Barber’s exhibition Reunited. In 1911 Gwen settled in Meudon, France, where she got to know the nuns at the town’s convent—and painted Mère Poussepin, its 17th-century founder, no fewer than six times! Come and find out about her fascination with this mysterious nun.
