Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra

The Soviet authorities called it an “optimistic tragedy”: Shostakovich just called it his Tenth Symphony. But either way, there’s nothing to beat the thrill of hearing this true Russian epic played by a great Russian orchestra, and the Moscow Philharmonic actually gave the world premieres of many of Shostakovich’s works. Under their chief conductor Yuri Simonov, they won’t hold back – and that goes double when pianist Alexandra Dariescu plays Tchaikovsky’s glittering concerto, in her long-awaited Birmingham debut.
