Lunchtime Organ Concert: Thomas Trotter

Birmingham is synonymous with the music of Mendelssohn – he played here, conducted here, and wrote his great oratorio Elijah especially for Birmingham. It’s part of our tradition: and today Thomas Trotter places Mendelssohn’s music alongside organ masters from John Stanley to Mendelssohn’s friend Franz Liszt – including a powerful showpiece written specially for Trotter and the Symphony Hall organ by Britain’s greatest living composer of sacred music, James MacMillan. History in real time.
