Mahler’s Fourth Symphony

A jingle of sleigh bells and a flurry of birdsong: Mahler’s Fourth Symphony begins like Mozart and ends with a child’s idea of heaven. But there’s a lifetime of emotion in-between. Mirga Gražinytė- Tyla starts the concert in the Finnish forests, then offers a choice: something wholly new from one of Finland’s pre-eminent living composers, or Mozart himself, freshly performed by star harpist Xavier de Maistre and the CBSO’s Marie-Christine Zupancic.
