Watt 2019: Illuminating James Watt


Find out more about the great Georgian inventor, industrialist and steam pioneer in this expert talk by Dr Malcolm Dick.

Hear how his pioneering work on improving steam engines led to a highly successful partnership with the industrialist and entrepreneur Matthew Boulton. This event celebrates James Watt’s bicentenary in 2019.

Dr Malcolm Dick is Director of the Centre for West Midlands History at the University of Birmingham, a trustee of the Black Country Living Museum and a council member of the Newcomen Society. He has written widely on West Midlands History including books on Birmingham and publications on Joseph Priestley, Matthew Boulton and John Baskerville. Currently Malcolm is editing two books on James Watt as part of his bicentenary celebrations in 2019.

Ticket includes the talk which takes place in the Lunar Room in Soho House, and an optional tour of Soho House after.
