The Folly's Beginners Improv Comedy Course
Fun, relaxed, and stupidly creative, our Beginners Class guides you through the basics of improvised comedy acting.
Starting on Wednesday 12th Feb, this course runs in the evenings, Wednesdays, for 8 weeks, in central Birmingham. Let go, feel free and have a ball finding out what other people love to see in you - even when you’re not feeling particularly funny or clever. Transform intellect into energy with a group of amazing people.
At the Folly School, we give you the tools you need to start building great improvised scenes. It's comedy but it's not stand up; you’ll be creating sketches and scenes with the team. You’ll discover how simple elements of performance build into collaborative moments of laughter.
The only thing to bring is you - no previous experience of being on stage is necessary.
Taught by The Folly's director, Sophie Pumphrey. Sophie started performing improv in 2006 and has been teaching for over 6 years. She's obsessed and talks of little else. Friendly, funny and straight to the point, she'll get the best out of you and your team.
Key skills developed over the 8 weeks:
- Creativity - how to unleash your imagination
- Spontaneity - act and react
- Yes And - what it means and what it doesn’t mean
- Collaboration - build comedy step by step
- Listening - magic power of effortless creativity
- Mindfulness - being more present with others
Wednesdays 7pm - 9.30pm
