Live Brazilian Folk Music at Café Forró!
Last month's Café Forró was out of this world! Let's make March's even better! This month with our favourite cheeky chappies: Forrobamba!
Forrobamba, our resident band, formed in London, 2012. Their name joins together two words: 'forró' the folk music style from the North East of Brazil and 'bamba' which means being good at what you do. They are a traditional forró trio with Guilhermino Ramos playing triangle (like you've never seen before!), Cassio Matheus playing zabumba and Rodrigo Vasconcelos playing the accordion. Forrobamba brings to their audiences forró pé de serra (a traditional, 'roots' style), with rhythms like coco, forró 'sambado' influenced by Jackson do Pandeiro and xote - without forgetting, of course, arrasta-pé, xaxado and baião. Their repertoire is bursting with songs by well-known artists like Dominguinhos, Trio Nordestino and Luiz Gonzaga as well as plenty of their own compositions which they have just released on their first album, 'Balance o Berço'. But of course, it wouldn't be a forró party without lots of dancing! Everyone is welcome on the Café Forró dance floor whether you're dancing head-to-head, thigh-to-thigh forró, or dancing whatever flippin' style you like. For those of you who want to get better acquainted with forró, there's a class just for you!
And if that wasn't enough excitement, BemBom will be selling Brazilian street food in the form of delicious tapiocas! If you've never tried one, this alone is worth coming for!
