An atmospheric tour of our jewellery factory, followed by a talk on the great Victorian novelist, Charles Dickens, plus two Dickensian-themed alcoholic drinks*.
Enjoy a unique 'taste of history' in our Twilight Talk & Tour event at the museum of the Jewellery Quarter.
Join a costumed, atmospheric evening tour of the Smith & Pepper factory and sip some complimentary samples of alcoholic drinks that Jewellery Quarter workers would have enjoyed from the Victorian age right up to the 1980's.
After the tour, sit in on a talk on Charles Dickens and his connection to the great city of Birmingham.
Charles Dickens was an enthusiastic admirer of Birmingham and it’s people, in fact his very first book “The Pickwick Papers” mentions the city. In 1853 his most popular novella “A Christmas Carol” was performed for the very first time at Birmingham’s Town Hall, fifteen years later he would become the president of the cities Birmingham and Midland Institute an organisation founded for the “Diffusion and Advancement of Science, Literature and Arts amongst all classes of people resident within the city. This talk will discuss Dickens connection with Birmingham and his love for both the city and the workers therein.
