Want to learn to Roller Skate?

Please ensure you email us on centralcityrollergirls@blueyonder.co.uk prior to attending a practice if new so we can make sure we have all the kit and coaches on hand to help you in your first session.

Central City Roller Girls have dedicated practices for all levels of skaters. We currently have newbie sessions every Monday and weekend and you can join at any time. The first session is completely free and we will even provide hire equipment (although we encourage you to get your own mouth guard!) If you have your own equipment (skates, helmet, knee/elbow/wrist pads, helmet, etc.,) you can bring this with you. After your first session and until you join the league as a full member you can pay-as-you-go at £5.00 a session. This gets two hours of skating time plus the use of skates, helmet, pads.

Playing: What can I expect in my first session?

For the first session we recommend bringing a drink and wearing something comfortable you can move around in. In the initial session you’ll get to meet some of the coaches and other girls/guys that skate. All coaches have passed minimum skills (required to play or referee Roller Derby) and will teach you all the basics you need to begin your Roller Derby career. We teach you skills, falls, endurance, stops, glides, everything you need to become an awesome skater and get involved in a great game! Plus we also have a good laugh too.

Playing: But I’m embarrassed I’m not fit enough/might fall over/not cool enough.

Falling over is part of learning! Every skater has fallen, and even the most advanced skater still falls – it’s part of the game. Roller Derby prides itself on being an all-inclusive sport which you can take up at any stage in your adult life, as for everything else you don’t know till you try! The only restriction we have is that you must be over 18.
