Heiner Goebbels: Walden

Goebbels’ Walden is an hour-long musical composition that is full of evocative sounds and features nine vibrant movements. The piece, which was inspired by 19th century naturalist Henry David Thoreau’s retreat to simple living in a cabin by Walden Pond in Massachusetts, features a number of specially-built
instruments such as the ‘steel cello’ and ‘bow chimes’ which resonate their sound through large sheets of steel.
