Political Songwriting Workshop with Ray Hearne
What makes a good political song? What are the burning issues we want to sing about? The idea is to stimulate people's confidence in their own abilities and see themselves as writers.
Participants might wish to work individually, in pairs or small groups –- the aim being to write as much as we can, in togetherness and solidarity, to produce singable pieces at the end of the day, perhaps using some good old tunes as templates.
Ray Hearne is a member of the Radio Ballads team, and his songs are still sung by Roy Bailey. He supports 'The Young Uns' at their Sheffield Singing weekends, has guested at Raise Your Banners and Folk Against Fascism events, and is chair of No Masters Co-operative (Coope, Boyes and Simpson, Chumbawamba, O'Hooley and Tidow, and the much missed Mike and LalWaterson etc)
