A Talk by Dr Joseph Anderton
From divine figures, to fabled beasts, from domestic companions, to farmed foodstuff, the lives of animals are central to human civilisation. This talk will consider how we might use literature to imagine and better appreciate the wildlife all around.
Writers have long been fascinated by wildlife and the natural world. This talk will explore the varied and interesting ways animals appear in novels and poems in the twentieth century and after, as beings in their own right and as a means of reflecting on humans.
