Elisabeth Blanchet and Jane Hearn - Seventy Years of Britain's Post-War Prefabs. More than 156,000 were built in the UK between 1946-1947 to house returning servicemen, their families and others made homeless by the war. Built to last 10 to 15 years, a few thousand are still standing, very much lived in and loved! Jane and Elisabeth talk about their origins, their architecture & design and their social & cultural impact. They pay particular attention, of course, to Birmingham (where 16 prefabs are listed by Historic England) and the Midlands. Please feel free to bring your photos of prefabs and stories about them.
