All ages and abilities are wanted to contribute to a spectacular, colourful knit graffiti project that will welcome the Jamaican and American teams to Birmingham for London 2012. For the K2TOG project, the lower columns on the exterior of Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery will be covered in knit graffiti.

Drop in to our pop-up space in the Pavilions and contribute to the piece. It doesn't matter if you have never picked up a pair of needles as there will be help on hand. Knit a few rows, pick up a kit to knit at home or just find out more about the project!

Capital Theatre Festival: Online Collaborative Playwriting , 24 May 2012

Caroline Jester leads this fun and interactive workshop exploring new practices and processes for developing new plays. Using RepWrite, Birmingham Repertory Theatre’s revolutionary online playwriting zone, participants will be able to learn about collaborative tools and techniques and apply these newfound skills to write short plays.

The interactive playwriting zone will enable writers to work collectively to develop multi-authored plays, creating characters, dialogue and storylines with real-time support from a professional dramaturg.

The workshop is a fantastic opportunity for writers to try out new ways of working and collaborating with others to create exciting new drama.

Caroline is Dramaturg at Birmingham Repertory Theatre and has taught on the MPhil in Playwriting at Birmingham University and various undergraduate programmes. She is the co-author of Playwriting Across the Curriculum, published by Routledge in 2011, and has worked as a freelance dramaturg, director and workshop leader.

mac Birmingham is looking for young people aged between 14-17, to work together and create a response to Tom Price’s fantastic Sentinels exhibition currently on in our studio gallery.

Who is it for?

We are looking for three groups of 14-17 year olds with an interest in drama.

What will happen during the workshop?

During the two hours, participants will have a chance to visit the Sentinels exhibition. Using the exhibition as a stimulus, the group will aim to create their own individual characters through a series of Brechtian inspired techniques.

Making great TV drama is a lot harder than it looks! Come along and see how it’s done on Thursday 24th May as part of Capital Theatre Festival.

Birmingham City University students will team up with the Screenwriters Forum to demonstrate a TV Shoot. We’ll be filming a short dramatic script to demonstrate how different styles of direction and acting can change the way a TV Drama scene looks and feels.

With over twenty years experience as writer working within a devising company, James is well placed to lead an exploration into the wide range of roles a writer can take when a play is being devised. Real life experiences will illuminate areas including: writing as inspiration; writing to order; working with actors and documentary material; writing for and from improvisation; aligning form with content. Finally the limits of devising will be discussed in relation to The Just Price of Flowers, a show that resisted being devised and had to be written.

The New Theatre Initiative (NTI) is a new partnership between in a moment theatre practitioners and the Old Joint Stock Theatre.

We will be running a series of NTI Workshops throughout the year aimed at stimulating the creation of new theatre here in Birmingham, inviting Actors, Writers, and Directors to make theatre together in the heart-of-Birmingham’s independent theatre. Each run of workshops will culminate in a showcase night of full performances of the newly created works to a paying audience at the OJST, and from the best of these Workshop performances will emerge full-scale production runs.

The attractive package of support the OJST are offering all NTI productions means that at last a full creation cycle for new plays will be an on-going and real opportunity for all Actors, Writers, Directors, and Theatre Creatives. We believe this exciting opportunity is what this region has been sorely lacking.

Solihull Arts Complex will be celebrating the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with its very own family street party in Library Square.

Throughout the day children are invited to come along and join fun art workshops to make diamond jubilee artwork. Families can join in the fun with our very own street party in Library Square. The street party will include entertainment with nostalgic food on offer in the cafe bar. Themed Diamond Jubilee costumes are very much encouraged.

Workshops will take place at 10am, 11.30am, 1.30pm & 3pm, with the street party running from 11am – 4pm.

Children will be supervised for the workshops but must be accompanied by an adult at the street party.

Places are limited on the workshops so book in advance. Suitable for ages 7+.
