The Mercury nomination was for their debut album on the F-Ire label entitled simply Roller Trio. The trio is from Leeds and show the influence of other Leeds groups, such as Trio VD; the line up is James Mainwaring on saxophone, Luke Wynter on guitar and Luke Reddin-Williams on drums.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;For the second part of the evening the stage opens up for an open jam session, where anyone with an instrument is welcome to get into the groove.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;The name means My Africa and its music celebrates the rhythms and melodies of the continent, featuring players from The Congo and Angola. They sing in five different languages, including Kikongo, Swahili, Lingala, French and Portuguese.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Sadly Michael died in 2011, but his music lives on. The band now features Tony Woods on saxophone, Nikki Iles on piano, vocals from Nette Robinson, with Matt Ridley on bass and Chris Nicholls on drums.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Bryan sat in recently with Chris Bowden Quartet and showed that he is back on top form and he now returns to the Symphony Hall Cafe Bar once more, leading a new group.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;His music is based in jazz, but also draws on other genres, notably folk. Dan’s debut album Indigo Kid was released last year to great acclaim.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Best known for his title role in House and one half of the comedy duo Fry and Laurie, Hugh is now pursuing his love of blues music.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Following the release of his first album Let Them Talk which celebrated New Orleans Blues, Hugh was inspired by the early pioneers of blues music including W.C. Handy and Jelly Roll Morton and in his second album he delves deeper into the American heartland.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;He is joined by members of the Copper Bottom Band including David Piltch on bass, Vincent Henry on horns and Elizabeth Lea on trombone. This stellar line up is completed with Herman Matthews on drums, Mark Goldenberg on guitars and vocals from Jean McClain and Gaby Moreno.&lt;/p&gt;

Completing the line up are saxophonist Mark Lockheart, who came to prominence in the mid 1980s with the influential and radical big band Loose Tubes and now plays with Seb Rochford’s Polar Bear; bass player Steve Watts, a significant member of innovative groups led by the likes of Django Bates, Iain Ballamy and Kirk Lightsey; and drummer James Maddren , one of the most in demand, young players around today, working with the likes of Gwilym Simcock and Kit Downes..&lt;/p&gt;
