The panel will aim to describe the broad and varied jazz and jazz-related scene in Birmingham and also the work of the Jazz Research Group based at Birmingham City University. A series of discussion points will guide a debate about the strengths and weaknesses of the scene. Panellists will include promoters, musicians and researchers: Sarah Farmer, musician and co-director of Ideas of Noise festival, Chris Young, musician and promoter, Piere Dugelay, Director of Le Périscope in Lyon, Brian Homer, photographer and organiser of Jazz in Birmingham, Jeremy Price, head of jazz at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Pedro Cravinho, researcher and archivist and Sam Slater, head of Stoney Lane Records, it will be chaired by Tony Dudley-Evans.
