Andy Sheppard & Trio Libero

This is saxophonist Andy Sheppard’s new band that has recorded a wonderful album for the ECM label and is touring UK in support of that album. It’s an Anglo-French trio with Michel Benita from France on double bass and Aberdeen born but London based Seb Rochford on drums. Judging on the evidence of its Cheltenham concert last year the trio really brings to life the music recorded for the album, producing enthralling thoughtful themes and improvisations that are gentle and contemplative, but also contain that grit we expect from a jazz performance.
