Victor Hochhauser presents THE KIROV BALLET Orchestra of the Kirov Ballet
The Kirov Ballet from the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg makes its debut at Birmingham Hippodrome in 2008. The UK tour is only visiting Birmingham and Salford - this really is a rare opportunity. The 200-year-old Russian company, under the Artistic Direction of Valery Gergiev and Ballet Director Makhar Vaziev, will perform two full-length ballets as well as a Gala Evening of balletic fireworks.
George Balanchines diverse three-act ballet Jewels, a succession of classical divertissements, is inspired by three precious stones: elegant and romantic for Emeralds (set to music by Fauré), hot and jazzy for Rubies (Stravinsky) and glittering and aristocratic for Diamonds (Tchaikovsky).
A truly glorious performance, and a real Balanchine experience, that lifted the spirits St Petersburg Times on Jewels
