Following his warmly received recital and masterclasses at the Conservatoire’s Debussy Festival earlier this year, French music specialist Roy Howat makes a welcome return, joined by the Conservatoire’s Ron Woodley, in a programme of two-piano music by the same composer.

Debussy’s late masterpiece for the genre, En blanc et noir, with its dark relationship to the horrors of the First World War, forms the centrepiece of the recital, surrounded by works displaying other, very different aspects of Debussy’s compositional palette, including his rarely performed March écossaise.

Roy Howat will introduce the programme, sharing his specialist knowledge of the compositional history, sources and performance of the works.
