A Night with Brahms
Brahms's Double Concerto is a composer's quintessential swan song; written after all of his Symphonies, Piano Concertos, and Overtures, the Double represents a powerful moment of introspection, retrospect, and regret for a composer who was in the final decade of his life.
Given a new lease of life by a young orchestra with two rising stars for soloists, the Concerto is paired with Brahms's 'Tragic Overture', in many ways the same message from a younger pen, and Richard English's 'Unplugged', written as a bridge between these two Austro-Germanic masterpieces.
