The Last Red Phonebox: The 50th Anniversary of the K8 Telephone Kiosk
Join us in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the ‘K8’ telephone kiosk! If you remember the K8 from its 1970s and 80s heyday, come along and indulge in some phonebox nostalgia, browse the National Telephone Kiosk Collection housed here at Avoncroft, have a go with the working exchanges and call each other the old-fashioned way.
Was this Britain’s least-loved phone box? Avoncroft presents a public talk by telecommunications specialist and co-author of “The British Phonebox”, Nigel Linge at 11.00am and 2.00pm in the Long Room. Do you have a photo of the K8 in situ to bring and show? Bring prints on the day, or share digitally on Twitter @AvoncroftMuseum and facebook.com/avoncroftmuseum. Come along and meet Nigel Linge and Andy Sutton, authors of the book “The British Phonebox”, who will be signing copies available to purchase. Let’s show this 1960s icon some love on its 50th birthday, and explore its role as Britain’s last red phone box.
