Michael Billington: Words
Michael Billington is Britain’s longest serving theatre critic. He has been the Guardian’s resident reviewer for many years and, as such, his view on a production of a play constitutes a bench mark of its success, or not. He is much admired and respected for his insightful views and enormous authority, however his tone is cordial and it is true to say he wears his great authority lightly.
He has written numerous books including the authorised biography of Harold Pinter, and The State of the Nation, a survey of post war British Theatre. He has contributed to the New York Times and television and radio broadcasts, presenting BBC’s Kaleidoscope and Critics Forum arts programmes.
