In this stage adaptation of the hugely popular TV series by Jimmy Perry and David Croft, SCURC Dramatic Society revisit the 1950s and Maplins Holiday Camp with its host of colourful characters. It's the start of a new season and founder Joe Maplin announces that he is setting up a camp in the Bahamas. He needs female yellowcoats to go and work out there and the annual 'Miss Yellowcoat' competition will decide who is to go. Rivalry between the girls is fierce, with Sylvia and Gladys joint forerunners to win the coveted yellow sash.

Camp cleaner Peggy, meanwhile, is thrilled at the prospect of a vacancy for a new yellowcoat and convinces Entertainments Manager Jeffrey that she is the ideal candidate for the job. Ted is forced to employ numerous money-making schemes when his ex-wife turns up at the camp with a bailiff in tow and Yvonne and Barry Stuart-Hargreaves send the rumour mill into overdrive when they overhear Gladys escorting Jeffrey into his chalet late one evening.

But, on best tradition of farce, complications arise in the form of George’s wife; another Maitland imposter (the butler’s brother) and finally the real George himself!

Join us at our new Saturday Arts Club for 7-11 year olds! Our club is for children (and their parents or carers) to take part in a creative art session inspired by the displays and exhibitions in our galleries. This session will be led by artist Ruth or Benny and will take place partly in a learning space and partly on the galleries. Tickets are available on the day at the Vestibule reception and are at the introductory price of £3 per child. You don't need to book.

Our new Saturday Arts Club is a chance for children aged 7-11 (and their parents or carers) to experience working with real artists and creative practitioners. The sessions (they run on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month though may alter at Easter and Christmas) are currently all art based and introduce participants to a variety of different materials and art forms. Children will be able to explore their creativity under the gentle guidance of one of our artists (Ruth Radcliffe or Benny Semp) and to be inspired by the lovely works in our galleries. Participants will be able to take their work home with them.

Children can attend just one or all of the sessions, we don't currently take advance booking (we will let you know if we introduce this) but we do expect participants to stay for all of the session.

The sessions take place from 10.30 - 12.30 in either the Activity Zone or the Learning Zone (entrance at Gt Charles St). Tickets at £3 per child are available at the Reception desk in the Vestibule

As part of the club children will have the opportunity to work towards the Explore Arts Award -for more information talk to the facilitator at the Arts Club or contact Julia (details below)

Paulina Salas is a former political prisoner in an unnamed Latin American country who had been raped by her captors, led by a sadistic doctor whose face she never saw. The rapist doctor played Schubert's composition Death and the Maiden during the act of rape; hence the play's title. Years later, after the (also unnamed) repressive regime has fallen, Paulina lives in an isolated country house with her husband, Gerardo Escobar. When Gerardo comes back from a visit to the president, he gets a flat tyre.

A stranger named Dr. Miranda stops to assist him. Dr. Miranda drives Gerardo home and later in the night he returns. Paulina recognizes Miranda's voice and mannerism as that of her rapist, and takes him captive in order to put him on trial and extract a confession from him.

40 years ago saw the release of a record that would bridge the generation gap and become a rock anthem to both young and old - '20th Century Boy' was written and composed by Marc Bolan, who with his band T.Rex, was one of the most flamboyant and charismatic of the original glam rock era. With Bolan's special ingredient of Rock-a-Boogie songs throughout the 1970s including 'Telegram Sam' and 'Jeepster' he was able to obtain what would be yet another Top 20 record later in 1976 that has since become one of the most memorable and everlasting signature tunes, 'I Love to Boogie'.

T.Rextasy have now been performing around the world for over 20 years, a career that ironically out lives Marc’s very own T.Rex. The band is now accepted as the world’s only official live tribute band dedicated to Marc Bolan & T.Rex, and the only band endorsed and approved by Marc Bolan’s family, estate, original ex-members of T.Rex, and Bolan’s catalogue management. The band has been described by many as ‘beyond the boundaries of tribute’.

Join us on 11 May 2013 for the ultimate David Bowie tribute night! Seamlessly impersonating the mannerisms and changing styles of the much loved pop icon, John Mainwaring will have you singing along to all the hits including Jean Genie, Starman and Ziggy Stardust.

Over the years John has worked with many household names such as Jarvis Cocker, singing and starring in Pulps Bad Cover Version video, and more recently co-writing and recording all the music for Beverly Callard's (Liz McDonald from Coronation Street) work out fitness DVD.

As well as performing as David Bowie in Jean Genie, John is currently signed to Bucks Music publishers in London. His latest achievements have been writing 3 songs for Tony Christie's million selling album The Definitive Collection, plus numerous theme tunes for BBC Radio.
