Frozen, 31 May 2012 - 9 Jun 2012

31 May 2012 - 9 Jun 2012 - Theatre at The Blue Orange Theatre

One evening ten-year-old Rhona goes missing. Her mother, Nancy, retreats into a state of frozen hope. Agnetha, an American academic, comes to England to research a thesis: "Serial Killing - A Forgivable Act?" Then there's Ralph, a loner who's looking for some distraction. Drawn together by horrific circumstances, these three embark on a long, dark journey which finally curves upward into the light. Angry, humane and compassionate, FROZEN is an extraordinary play that entwines the lives of a murderer, the mother of one of his victims and his psychologist to explore our capacity for forgiveness, remorse and change after an act that would seem to rule them out entirely. Contains: strong language and references of a sexual and violent nature.

Hamlet, 6 Jun 2012 - 9 Jun 2012

6 Jun 2012 - 9 Jun 2012 - Theatre at Alderbrook School

(suitable for under 18s)

The King of Denmark is dead. He leaves behind a son; Hamlet, a widow; Gertrude a brother; Claudius and a nation in ruins. Not two months have passed and now Hamlet must watch on as his uncle not only takes his father's throne but his widow too.

However, Hamlet knows the terrible truth that Claudius has killed his father and so he must seek revenge.

Possibly the most famous play of all time, the Solihull Society of Arts adds a spice of 2012 to Shakespeare's play about madness, revenge and family. With music from Alex Turner, Birdy, Nirvana and Radiohead, expect something a bit different this summer to the great Danish tragedy.

Directed by Thom Faulkner and Sarah Jones, starring Alderbrook Drama teacher Steve Eagles as Hamlet, Simon King as Claudius and Chris Cooper as Polonius.

Cape Town Opera - Porgy and Bess, 6 Jun 2012 - 9 Jun 2012

Porgy and Bess has emerged as one of the great icons of American music theatre, known around the world as ‘the peoples’ opera’.

Written in 1935 and originally portraying the 1920s life of America’s Deep South, this compelling work contains some of the most stirring and ever-lasting songs including Summertime, I Got Plenty Of Nuttin’, It Ain’t Necessarily So and I Loves You Porgy.

Transplanted to the townships of South Africa, this production provides a contemporary view of an enduring classic which has received critical acclaim the world over.

In a production aimed at children over three and their whole families, Andy and long-term comedy partner Mike James have created a hilarious, slap-stick and fast-paced show:

ANDY & MIKE’S… Big Box of Bananas! When a magical and mysterious box appears the duo’s ‘fun pad’, the boys find they are unable to open it. They make it their mission to find out what’s inside, which leads them into the greatest adventure of their lives! Guided only by their own curiosity and the suave, sophisticated, handsome and altogether modest narrator.

Join them on the colourful journey that ensues… they’ll be taking the ‘house-sitters’ (that’s you) every step of the way! Be prepared to meet confused pirates, musical sea life, all-singing all-dancing air stewards and to lend them a hand to find out what could be inside the Big Box!

After a short return last year and as early 90's indie has a general resurgence whilst the world looks around for older rock heroes to worship in these days of personality-bypassed, jelly-moulded, radio-friendly blandness, the time is ripe for Leeds' favourite sons to rebound back onto the live scene one last time. Expect cardiac arrests, tears of joy, singalongs and frilly purple shirts!

Inspired by their heroes, but not content to follow; trendless and timeless, their brand of inspired pop exposes the fantastic in the mundane and uncovers glory in the humdrum.

Stray Soul Remedy are not content to merely exist but demand to live in the hearts of those who hear them. Carried by a West Coast wind to the heart of the country and beyond. Providing a welcome remedy for stray souls that listen.

The quirky quartet toured throughout the USA, rapidly developed a fiercely loyal, all-ages following, before invading the UK.

Festival appearances in 2010 at Glastonbury and Rhythm Festival raised the creative stakes. Featured recently in Relix Magazine, the New York Times and on the hit American show, Joan of Arcadia, the charismatic live performances of Gandalf Murphy & The Slambovian Circus of Dreams and whimsical blend of folk, rock, hillbilly and pop have simply captivated audiences and critics alike. "Kind like a hillbilly Pink Floyd…" come see for yourself what the world is talking about.

CBSO Nelsons conducts Shostakovich , 9 Jun 2012

9 Jun 2012 - Classical at Symphony Hall

Dark, impassioned, packed with secret messages and featuring a terrifying musical portrait of Stalin himself, Shostakovich’s Tenth is a true twentieth-century masterpiece. Andris Nelsons feels a special kinship with Shostakovich’s music, so this performance promises to be one of the highlights of the season.

First, though, Bartók’s lyrical, life-affirming Concerto allows the CBSO’s Hungarian viola section leader Adam Römer to step into the spotlight, and Nelsons shows us a side of Dvořák we don’t usually hear: the brooding drama of his stormy Othello overture.

What could happen next? What does the future hold?'

Please come and see what promises to be a very very special show.

What sort of show I hear you shout at your computer screens, well the computer screen will not answer you but I can... BURLESQUE!!!! Yes nothing like the film. hahaha, Sure Christina can sing (well some people think so) but real burlesque is not about nightclubs and bars its about the girls that perform and the reasons they do it. Some girls do it to build self confidence, some girls do it for expression, some do it just because they want to show the world they dont care who judges them for what they choose to do... Whatever the reason they are doing it, most of all they are doing it for you guys, the Audience, They do it for the cheers & the whistles and the happiness it can give... Part of that happiness is giving this to charity, every performer has waived their usual fees to support this.

We have some of the most up and coming local talent, we have one of the HOTTEST acts you will ever see, one of the FUNNIEST acts bar none.
