Willis Earl Beal is a songwriter whose vintage, analog-blues-heavy styles — and we mean vintage, dude makes Jack White look like Neon Indian — attracted the attentions of XL, who signed him to their imprint Hot Charity. Attracting some local renown and a following in Chicago for his eccentric, old-world attitude toward artistry, Beal is known to sing to interviewers on the telephone and leave flyers around town with his phone number on them. Along that line is his hand-drawn video for the single ‘Evening’s Kiss’, off his new record ‘Acousmatic Sorcery’.
