Royal Ballet Flanders: Artifact

It is difficult to imagine that William Forsythe created Artifact as long as 25 years ago and thereby changed the way in which we look at expression through dance forever.

Artifact is a full-evening show in four parts, and presents group scenes, solos and pas de deux to Johann Sebastian Bach’s Chaconne in D. Artifact combines an exceptional amount of text for a dance performance with an extensive repertoire of sign language and extremely formal pure-dance sections, and sometimes even wild combinations involving all of these.

The magical effect of this groundbreaking opus is mainly created by the brilliant design of the lighting, also created by William Forsythe.
