13 Mar 2012 - 21 Apr 2012 - Theatre at Birmingham Hippodrome

In a fabulous new production, one of the most beloved Bristish musicals ever, OLIVER! Is coming to Birmingham Hippodrome! Bringing vividly to life Dicken’s timeless characters with its ever-popular story of the boy who asked for more, Lionel Bart’s sensational score includes Food Glorious Food, Consider Yourself, You’ve Got to Pick-a-Pocket or Two, I’d Do Anything, Oom Pah Pah, As Long As He Needs Me and many more.

OLIVER! recently completed a two year run at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London where it opened to rave reviews, sell-out business and the biggest advance sales of all time for a West End show. Last year, OLIVER! celebrated its 50th birthday, having premiered in the West End in 1960.

Playing the role of Fagin will be Neil Morrissey from Tuesday 13 March – Saturday 1 April and Brian Conley from Tuesday 3 April – Saturday 21 April.

The Gin Game, 14 Apr 2012 - 21 Apr 2012

14 Apr 2012 - 21 Apr 2012 - Theatre at Crescent Theatre

Crotchety and lonely, Weller waits for death in a small home for the elderly, with only his playing cards for company. Enter Fonsia.

Not quite a breath of fresh air, but certainly new and with no knowledge of either Weller or Gin Rummy. At first, he is delighted to teach her – but then he loses the first game.

The Pulitzer Prize winning play comes to Birmingham for the first time.

Mustafa , 17 Apr 2012 - 21 Apr 2012

17 Apr 2012 - 21 Apr 2012 - Theatre at mac

Mustafa is in prison serving 14 years for the death of a teenage boy during an attempted exorcism. Racked with guilt at the loss of an innocent life and isolated in a world where his beliefs are constantly challenged, he tries to keep his head down to avoid drawing attention to himself. But soon, the prisoners who have been taunting him suffer unexplained injuries and the prison officers start behaving strangely. Mustafa believes that something, out of his control, is making his sentence intolerable, whilst others are sceptical of his odd behaviour.

Road , 18 Apr 2012 - 20 Apr 2012

18 Apr 2012 - 20 Apr 2012 - Theatre at Crescent Theatre

First staged at the Royal Court in 1986, Road tells of one wild night in a derelict northern street. The play won numerous awards and was voted the 36th best play of the 20th century in a poll by the Royal National Theatre. Sharp and comic scenes jostle viciously to expose a population driven mad by despair, all trying to find some kind of escape from their squalid existence. ‘This is the last stop – all of life is chucked here.’

With recent riots and Government cuts, this will be a timely revival – a cast of nearly 100 of Birmingham’s young people make their voices heard as they explore ‘community neglect’ and individuals’ loneliness and how we can actively contribute to happiness and security within our own neighbourhoods. This passionate, poetic and positive portrayal of working class life will leave you uplifted and reminded of the extraordinary resilience of the human spirit.

Cirque Du Soleil - Alegria , 18 Apr 2012 - 22 Apr 2012

18 Apr 2012 - 22 Apr 2012 - Theatre at The NIA

Alegría is a classic Cirque du Soleil production that has received international acclaim and wowed over 10 million people worldwide since it premiered in 1994 in Montreal. Alegría is a Spanish word that means happiness, joy and jubilation and features an international cast of 55 performers and musicians from 17 countries and showcases breathtaking acrobatics.

Phil Bowdery, President of Touring for Live Nation said: “Cirque du Soleil is a global phenomenon and Alegría is regarded as a jewel in the crown. It’s the ultimate in live entertainment and we’re thrilled to have it tour in UK arenas.”

The spectacular 2½ hour production showcases gravity-defying acrobatics which will dazzle and astound audiences of all ages. Fans will hold their breath as the skill and poise of the world-renowned performers are put to the test with dramatic acrobatics such as the intense and high-energy Aerial High Bars in which daring aerialists fly to catchers swinging more than 40 feet above the stage.

In the rhythmic and dangerous Fire-Knife Dance, artists manipulate flaming knives around their bodies, while Power Track showcases a brilliant display of synchronized choreography and tumbling on a trampoline system magically concealed under the stage floor. In Russian Bars, artists fly through the air and perform spectacular somersaults and mid-air turns, landing on bars perched on the sturdy shoulders of catchers.

Cirque du Soleil has dazzled and amazed almost 100 million people in 300 cities across five continents since its humble beginnings in Quebec in 1984, and its return to the UK in 2012 is set to be one of the entertainment highlights of the year. Cirque du Soleil has visited Manchester, Glasgow and Birmingham previously with Delirium in 2007/08, Quidam in 2009 and Saltimbanco in 2010.

Attack! would be screaming vocals, playing to sold out venues and rip roaring through choruses in a sonic rock assault on their adoring fans.

For a run of exclusive dates this April the pair have decided to strip back and adhere to their more delicate moments as we see them brandish their acoustic guitars and softer vocals and remember their respective bands, solo tracks and favourite songs.

The Los Angeles MC was introduced to hip-hop culture early – he began rapping at age 9, releasing his first record at age 13. By the mid-’90s, Busdriver was a regular at the Project Blowed open mic, where he would meet future collaborators and underground luminaries like Aceyalone, Abstract Rude, and Freestyle Fellowship. And shortly after, the vinyl did flow.

CBSO Friday Night Classics: Classic Chaplin , 20 Apr 2012

20 Apr 2012 - Classical at Symphony Hall

Watch two of the legendary Charlie Chaplin’s silent movie gems on the big screen, as we transform Symphony Hall into a giant cinema for one night only. In One A.M., Chaplin’s character arrives home late, only to be defeated by a series of inanimate but spectacularly uncooperative objects!

City Lights is a heart-warming romantic tale of a tramp, a drunken millionaire, and a poor blind flowergirl. With every action on screen brought to life by the live soundtrack, composed and reconstructed from the original music by tonight’s ever-charismatic conductor Carl Davis, this is sure to be a very special evening for film fans of all ages.

After building a reputation in the local dance halls of the Midlands and then honing their musical skills in the night clubs of Germany, The Rockin’ Berries burst onto the national scene in the midst of the Sixties British Beat Boom with hit records like ‘He’s in Town’ and ‘Poor Man’s Son’. During their long late night stints in Germany the band had developed comedy routines which always left the German audiences wanting more.

Over the years there have been a few personnel changes, with founder Chuck Botfield being an ever present throughout, but The Rockin’ Berries reputation on the Club scene and nostalgia circuit has never wavered. They were voted Top Club Act during the Nineties with the highest number of votes recorded in any of the seven categories. The current line up of Chuck Botfield, Geoff Turton and drummer Simon Ryland continue with that fantastic reputation and legacy............

In 1971 he completed his biography of Lytton Strachey and by 1976 the biography of Augustus John was published. The first of his four volume biography of George Bernard Shaw appeared in 1989.

Accolades quickly followed – among them the 1988 presidency of the English branch of PEN. In 1989 he was awarded the CBE, in 2001 he was awarded the Hayward Literary Prize and in 2005 he gained the David Cohen Prize. In 2005 Michael Holroyd was knighted in the New Year’s Honours List for his services to English Literature.
Lack of Afro DJ Set , 20 Apr 2012

20 Apr 2012 - Club at The Yardbird

FREE

The Lack Of Afro story began back in 2006 after excited word spread to the Freestyle Records offices about the sounds Adam was creating. Freestyle's head honcho DJ Adrian Gibson instantly signed him and released the stunning debut single 'Wait A Minute'. One of the labels fastest selling 12"s ever, it has gone onto sell massive numbers worldwide and appeared on countless compilations. The subsequent 2007 album 'Press On' fulfilled his early promise, with Adam playing nearly all the instruments himself. Hailed by iDJ magazine as 'one of the greatest albums of the modern funk era', the release passed into contemporary music folklore.

Now, in 2009 with 'My Groove, Your Move', Lack Of Afro dispels the difficult second album' syndrome without even breaking a sweat. Featuring vocal contributions from the amazing Roxie Ray (Dojo Cuts) on the suitably sultry numbers 'Closer To Me' and 'Tell Me What Happens Now'. In addition YouTube MC prodigies Wax & Herbal T bust out all over the slamming club killer 'International' and the superb 'Suspicious Glow'.

Whilst retaining the signature Lack Of Afro elements of deep dish drums, Nick Radford's rootsy guitar picking, ex Paul-Weller/Ocean Colour Scene Damon Minchella's thundering bass, spliced with intelligent use of rare samples 'My Groove, Your Move' is without doubt an even more confident, assured and mature collection than its predecessor. This album is a high octane, trail blazing and innovative venture that is comfortable with it's own past, our present and everyone's future...yes indeed.

Dj’s – Rock the Jazbah

Every Friday Night Resident Dj’s Billy Chill Fingers and Richie Re-Issue Bring You the Tightest Funk, Soul and Rock’n’roll, Hiphop, Beats and Swing, Alongside Top Uk and International Bands Playing Funk, Hiphop, Ska, Reggae and Worldwide Grooves

And I know we keep saying it, but it’s something we are really proud of – despite the numbers through the doors we never see any agro, mood or unpleasantness, just wall to wall up-for-it happy clubbers dancing to a sick soundtrack!
