THOMAS J SPEIGHT
Last year saw the release of Thomas J Speight’s EP ‘Willow Tree’ through the independent label Young & Lost Club (home of Noah and the Whale and Johnny Flynn), and support slots for Fionn Regan, Doves, Mumford & Sons and Stephen Fretwell – all of which has helped make Thomas and his melodic vocal stylings a must-see.
The ‘Willow Tree’ EP, produced by Keane members Tim Rice-Oxley and Jesse Quin has received widespread acclaim from a number of sources for its insightful lyrics and intricate arrangements, including Ryan Adams, who acknowledged the sound as “so beautiful”. This, in addition to support from Sir Paul McCartney, suggest that Thomas J Speight is one to watch.
This year will see Thomas J Speight team up once again with Jesse Quinn and Andy Dunlop for the release of the four track EP: ‘Together Or Alone’, which showcases some of his best work to date.
The Amateurs are a Birmingham based rock group who have toured extensively throughout the UK, playing alongside artists such as Eliza Doolittle, Guillemots, Cage The Elephant, Athlete and Reverend and The Makers. Working closely with their management and production team throughout 2011, on what will become their debut album, the band are now getting back into the live circuit with new material and a new lease of life. A standout performance at Birmingham’s Artsfest at the end of last year supporting Guillemots on the Kerrang! stage and backing from BBC Introducing are testament to that fact. "Music with passion… I’m a huge fan…Goosebumps is the word I use to encapsulate their music." - Tim Shaw – Rock/Alternative Radio and TV Presenter
BIG TENT AND THE GYPSY LANTERN
Big Tent and the Gypsy Lantern are known for their big but refined sound stemming from their use of rich vocal harmony and an interesting and varied mix of instruments. The four strong line up combines 4 part harmony with guitar, percussion, trumpet, accordion and ukulele. Their insightful lyrics comment on the mundanity of everyday life often with a carefully crafted sense of wit, and when performing, they have fast become known for their lively and involving stage presence.
Every Wednesday Birmingham Promoters bring you an evening of eclectic music.
