With a winning smile, several tommy guns and an army of hoods, Arturo Ui has arrived in town looking to expand his criminal empire — offering protection and freedom — at a very large price. The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui is a satirical parable that chronicles the rise of Adolf Hitler and the Nazi party. Told through Arturo Ui, a desperate small time hoodlum in 1930s Chicago, who takes advantage of economic turmoil to seize control of the cauliflower racket, by ruthlessly disposing of the opposition. All the characters and groups in the play had direct counterparts in real life, and every scene is based on a real event. In this hilarious farce a total of 32 characters are portrayed by only 14 actors in Bertolt Brecht's thought provoking portrayal of how resistible Hitler's rise to power really was.
