Part of Heritage Open Days
The National Trust Back to Backs in Birmingham city centre is a carefully restored 19th century courtyard of working people's houses; the last surviving court of back to back housing in Birmingham. Four of the houses have been restored to reflect four different times - the 1840s, 1870s, 1930s and 1970s. For Heritage Open Day the ground floors of all four houses, and the courtyard itself, will be open for the public to view without the need for a pre-booked guided tour. Volunteers and staff will be on hand to answer questions. The air raid shelter in one of the cellars, normally only open during our second world war week, will also be open for viewing.
