David Hart - A Life in Words
David Hart talks about and reads from his poems in relation to his life of words; from growing up as a choirboy in mid-Wales via Anglican priesthood in London and Birmingham, to ten years as a poet.
David’s latest book, Running Out, documents this last period by way of poems from hospital and poetry festival residencies, commissions, a sequence in response to Rilke, a long poem in the voice of Beethoven, libretti, a week in Poland, competition winning poems, free-floating inventions and, having been the city’s first full-year Poet Laureate, almost an acceptance of life as a Birmingham poet. His work in Warwick and Birmingham universities, in running evening courses and one-off workshops, has made for a to and fro of open discussion, and such discussion will be part of this Festival event.
