Mozart from Salzburg
SALZBURG MOZARTEUM ORCHESTRA
Few orchestras can claim such close links to Mozart as the Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra. Mozarts widow, Constanza, formed the orchestra in 1841 to mark the 50th anniversary of Mozarts death and since then it has celebrated his genius. Their programme includes two concertos in one concert, as well as two great symphonies, the youthful, high-spirited No 34 and the tragic No 40. Classic FMs Anne-Marie Minhall says of tonights recommended concert:
Symphony No 34 was written by Mozart during a difficult period in his life. His mother had died, hed been spurned by the woman he loved and he was working in Salzburg for an Archbishop who didnt really appreciate the genius he had under his roof.
