Bach... by Arrangement
CLASSICAL ENCOUNTERS WITH ORCHESTRA OF THE SWAN
Bach has been an inspiration for 250 years, influencing composers from Mozart to Martland, and this concert opens with a remarkable arrangement of one of Bachs most well known works, his Toccata and Fugue in d minor for organ. Alexander Goehr is one of the UKs most distinguished composers and this evenings world premiere, commissioned by OOTS is inspired by music from China and Bach. The relentless energy of Bachs Brandenburg concerto no3 was a clear inspiration to Stravinsky and the concert concludes with Dumbarton Oaks, his engaging and witty tribute to the Baroque master Curtis directed with style and understanding, dreaming up a fascinating menu of offerings, chatting to the audience as if among friends, drawing colourfully communicative readings Birmingham Post
