Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra
Comprised of traditional Chinese string, wind and percussion instruments, this 85-strong ensemble has gained an outstanding international reputation for its powerful and evocative performances of music both ancient and modern. The Orchestras visit forms part of CHINA NOW, a nationwide showcase of the very best of modern China. The orchestra have chosen a programme to display the national spirit of China with different ethnic flavours from different areas of the country.
They will play pieces of music inspired by aspects of Chinese culture, including traditional feast days and Chinese calligraphy. Two types of Chinese lutes will have solos during the concert, and musicians and world music fans will be intrigued to see these fantastical looking instruments in action.
Having been established over thirty years ago, the Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra is one of the foremost exponents of traditional Chinese music.
